Hello! I’m Sneha. Welcome to my space.

I am a tenure-track assistant professor with the section for Statistics and Data Analysis at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (Compute), Technical University of Denmark (DTU). I received my PhD from Aalto University, Finland in 2021 within Speech and Language Technology. Prior to this, I did my MSc in Communication and Multimedia Engineering from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany in 2016 and my Bachelors in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2013 (BMS Institute of Technology, India). I was born in Kolkata (Eastern India), and lived most of my life in Bangalore (Southern India).

I work on multi-sensory data modelling, that includes speech and audio, biosignals and visual data modalities. That said, given my discipline and years of research, working with speech signals and developing robust speech technology holds a special interest. My research incorporates shared perspective from statistics, machine-learning, deep-learning and (social) signal processing, with an emphasis on resource constrained setting. I am also interested in questions on ‘AI-alignment’ from legal and human-rights perpectives, besides the ethical and technical aspects. In collaboration with interdisciplinary experts, I am currently reasearching and developing tools for AI evaluation and impact-assessment within high-risk use-cases of AI with compliance and conformity as end goals. Equity, accessibility, inclusivity are recurrent themes in my research, providing the foundational grounding and direction to my research. Given the ubiquity and the influence of technology in our lives, I strongly believe in the need for interdisciplinary teams for development and advancement of technologies. Although my interests and research topics keep evolving, I have tried to summarize them in the figure below.
